International PhD Programme At Institute of Molocular Biology

Mainz, May 2012. The 2nd call of the International PhD Programme on the “Dynamics of Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and DNA Damage Response“ has now been published. The programme is supported by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, coordinated by the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) and includes additional groups at Johannes Gutenberg University, the University Medical Center and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz.

The International PhD Programme (IPP) on the “Dynamics of Gene Regulation, Epigenetics and DNA Damage Response” gives talented and enthusiastic students the opportunity to undertake interdisciplinary PhD research at the cutting edge of modern biology. Research groups within the Programme cover a broad range of expertise and the Programme themes encompass epigenetics, transcriptional control & dynamics, RNA biology, DNA damage repair, chromatin biology, bioinformatics & systems biology.

The IPP includes a comprehensive programme for advanced training which covers a variety of topics that will directly benefit the research of participating students. These include, for instance, practical courses in bioinformatics, advanced microscopy, cytometry and cell sorting, qPCR, the analysis of microarray and next generation sequencing (NGS) data and statistics.

In addition to learning new, state-of-the-art techniques from the wide range of experts that are present within the Programme, there will also be dedicated courses teaching the transferable skills that are essential for a successful career. Courses cover, for example, scientific writing skills, presentation skills, project management and conflict management as well as patenting.

The deadline for applications is 1 August 2012. For more information and a full list of participating groups and projects please visit: www.imb-mainz.de/PhD.
